No More Late Show

Late-night comedy shows have been a fixture of American TV since the 1950s. A mix of satire, comedy, music and celebrity guests, they are known for their criticism of politics and those in the public eye. It came as a shock to audiences when Stephen Colbert, host of the long-running The Late Show, announced in July that CBS was going to stop the show in May 2026, despite it being top of the late-night ratings. There has been an outcry about free speech and possible political interference.

Since 1994, the Prix Bayeux has been awarded annually to war correspondents. The event also organises a schools’ project: Regard des jeunes de 15 ans. 3ème classes from France or abroad can vote for one of 20 press photos they feel best symbolises the world today. Votes close on 2 October.

En étudiant le film WALL-E , les élèves s’interrogent sur le lien entre l’humain et la nature, en mettant l’accent sur la responsabilité écologique de l’homme. Ils analysent également les emprunts au cinéma muet burlesque en établissant un parallèle entre WALL-E et le court-métrage Une vie de chien de Charlie Chaplin. We'll be writing about the films in competition soon, but you can get ready to sign up your classes to see some great British and Irish films at special schools showings. You need to register between 18 August and 8 September for showings between 22 and 26 September.

The ninth FIFA Women's World Cup will be held in Australia and New Zealand from 20 July to 20 August. The tournament is being billed as the biggest ever women's sporting event . More than a million match tickets have been sold and the tournament will involve the biggest number of teams, and therefore matches, in its 32-year history: 32 teams will compete, up from 24 in the 2019 World Cup in France.
