Orangutan Eco-Warrior

Ozi: Voice of the Forest is an animated film with an ecological message. Its protagonist, Ozi, is a young orangutan who is separated from her parents during a forest fire. She finds refuge in a sanctuary where she learns sign language. But when she hears her parents are alive, she sets off to find them. Orangutans are humans' closest relatives in the animal world. They are a critically endangered species and live only in the Pacific, principally on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra. There are fewer than 120,000 orangutans left in the wild and their habitat is threatened by human activity: the rainforests they live in are being cut down to create palm oil plantations to feed our desire for shampoo, chocolate spreads and cosmetics. That is the situation in the film, which is co-produced by actor Leo DiCaprio, well-known for his commitment to the environment. The film trailer will allow pupils to piece together the story. We see wildfires, Ozi explaining her life in the sanctuary she calls an orphanage, and her realisation she can and must try to save her parents and habitat. It introduces her friends, a monkey called Chance and a rhinoceros called Honkys. Down the Mississippi

The Mississippi is in the spotlight in April at the Institut Franco-Américain in Rennes. A talk and a documentary film explore the river. On 1 April, Hervé Nicolas, recently retired researcher from  l’Institut Agro Rennes-Angers, will give a talk about the effects of climate change on the fourth longest river in the world. On 3 April, there will be a screening of River to the Heart, a documentary following novelist Eddy L. Harris in 2019 as he repeated his own epic journey from thirty years before, kayaking the 2,500 mile length of the Mississippi from northern Minnesota to New Orleans. Harris wrote about the original journey in his first book, Mississippi Solo, and has continued to travel and explore the African-American experience of the country, in the South and in Harlem for example. In May, there will be three screenings of films about the environment and environmental activism. And while you're at the IFA, don't miss the exhibition about Susan B. Anthony , the suffragist campaigner, till the end of April. Si l’IA est apparue dans les années 1950, les algorithmes des IA génératives, capables de produire des images, des textes, des sons et de la musique, bouleversent le quotidien et la sphère professionnelle… et investissent de plus en plus le milieu éducatif. MIA Seconde veut renforcer l’apprentissage des maths et du français

Le programme d’apprentissage adaptatif pour les mathématiques et le français MIA Seconde a été déployé dans huit académies pilotes en 2024. Il peut être utilisé en amont des cours, intégré dans les séances pédagogiques et mobilisé comme un outil de révision et de consolidation. Une étude d’impact a été lancée en octobre dernier afin d’affiner ses usages et de maximiser les bénéfices de l’apprentissage adaptatif. Annoncée par le gouvernement Attal, la généralisation de MIA Seconde a été reportée sans date précise.

Eduquer pour un usage éclairé de l'IA

Dans leur livre C’est (pas) moi, c’est l’IA, Didier Roy et Pierre-Yves Oudeyer décryptent l’intelligence artificielle pour les jeunes et les enseignants. Face à une génération qui l’utilise massivement – souvent sans recul –, l’ouvrage vise à développer l’esprit critique. Accessible dès 12 ans, il éclaire sur les usages de l’IA en classe, son potentiel pédagogique et ses limites. De la personnalisation des apprentissages à la planification des cours, Didier Roy explique que l’IA peut être un outil précieux, à condition de rester sous contrôle humain.

Accompagner les élèves dans l’usage de l’IA : un nouveau défi pour les enseignants

Enseignant et responsable de l’innovation pédagogique et numérique à l’Institut Florimont à Genève, Yann Houry détaille les étapes pour bien travailler avec l’IA. Il convient de sécuriser le processus avec des outils fiables, puis d’éduquer les élèves au fonctionnement probabiliste de l’intelligence artificielle et à la maitrise de l’art de la requête. Il propose aussi différents usages concrets de l’IA en classe, autour de projets créatifs voire ludiques.

Quand l'IA devient un compagnon d'apprentissage en français

Professeur de lettres, créatrice de la plateforme de podcasts éducatifs Clapotee et du site de travail Educatee, Cécile Cathelin a introduit l’intelligence artificielle en classe en initiant ses élèves à la méthode Craft, pour les aider à structurer leurs prompts. L’un des impacts majeurs de l’utilisation de l’IA est le retour du brouillon dans les habitudes des élèves, renforçant leur capacité à structurer leur pensée. Elle souhaite conserver un usage de l’IA ponctuel et encadré, avec une charte définissant son rôle comme un outil d’accompagnement, et non un substitut pédagogique.

Hablas español avec l'IA : une utilisation critique et réfléchie

Enseignante en espagnol en collège, Gaëlle Hallez a rapidement intégré l’intelligence artificielle dans ses cours pour accompagner ses élèves dans une utilisation critique et réfléchie. Elle a d’abord testé ChatGPT pour comparer les informations et affiner leur esprit critique, puis s’est lancée dans la création de chatbots avec Mizou. Ces expériences ont permis aux élèves de mieux structurer leurs idées, de développer des compétences en programmation et de comprendre que l’IA n’est pas infaillible.

Red Nose Day is Celebrating a Big Birthday

Red Nose Day is back on Friday 21 March in the UK.  And this is incredibly the charity Comic Relief's 40th birthday. They've been encouraging people to don a clown's red nose and "do something funny for money" since 1988.
