National symbols are a wonderful way into discussing a country's culture -- and encouraging pupils to think about their own country's symbols, which we all tend to take for granted. The current debate in the U.S.A. about honouring a woman on a banknote is and excellent and realistic example. This topic is great for classwork in either collège or lycée.

Il est de plus en plus indispensable aujourd’hui de trouver le-s moyen-s de remotiver les élèves mais aussi parfois de se remotiver en tant qu’enseignant. Pour cela, il est essentiel de cerner les différents profils et de prendre en compte les diverses motivations des élèves. Simon Ensor a exploré les possibilités que peuvent offrir les réseaux sociaux pour développer les compétences linguistiques chez l’élève et professionnelles chez le professeur. Il partage ici son expérience dans un premier épisode d'histoires virtuelles vraies. Plusieurs idées présentées ci-dessous sont très courantes dans les pratiques enseignantes dans les pays anglophones (portfolios d’élèves, journal d’apprentissage - learning journal - ou nombreuses ressources pédagogiques disponibles sur les murs de la salle de classe). Toutes ces idées sont assez faciles à mettre en oeuvre et elles peuvent aider à donner un nouveau souffle à l’enseignement des langues vivantes.
